Unlocking a PDF removes the open password so the file can be opened, printed, and shared without a password prompt. This is useful when you have finished the restricted distribution period for a document and want to make it freely accessible, or when a password-protected file needs to be merged, compressed, or processed by another tool.
You must know the current password to use this tool. The tool authenticates with the password you provide and produces a clean, password-free copy of the document. The original file is not modified - you receive a separate unlocked download.
If your PDF shows as password-protected but you believe it should not require one, upload it without entering a password. The tool will attempt to create a clean copy. Some PDFs have owner-level restrictions applied without an open password - in those cases, the tool will produce an unlocked copy with permissions restored.
This tool is intended for use on documents where you have legitimate authorization to remove the password - your own files, or files where you have been given the password by the document owner.
Remove a known password or owner-level restriction from a PDF so it can be opened, merged, compressed, or redistributed more easily.
